THE BASIC PROGRAM'S MAHAYANA MIND TRAINING: WHEEL OF SHARP WEAPONS
Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm , January 9 through April 30, 2008
Teacher: Don Handrick

Our main and worst enemy is the one who has made us suffer from beginningless time and is our own self-cherishing. Therefore, through considering it to be our enemy, we must strike its vital point. Since this text thoroughly hits the vital point of the enemy, self-cherishing, it is called the wheel of sharp weapons. - Geshe Jampa Gyatso

The Mahayana path is characterized by the bodhisattva's aspiration to become a buddha for the sake of all beings. The means to develop and enhance this extraordinary attitude are revealed in a genre of teachings, at once practical and radical, known in Tibetan as Lojong or mind training. Dharmarakshita's Wheel of Sharp Weapons is one of the most esteemed mind training teachings, and a powerful weapon to cut through our true enemies - the self-grasping and self-cherishing thoughts that oppose one's altruistic intention and prevent lasting happiness and peace.

In this course we will comprehensively explore this timeless teaching to reveal its richness and depth and discover the practical advice for transforming all our thoughts to respond to all our problems and difficulties with more compassion and insight.
